If You Use Internet Explorer (IE), Please Read This Post
Researchers and Microsoft have discovered that Internet Explorer has a bug that might allow a bad guy to get control of your computer.
If you use any version of IE1, please install the temporary fix Microsoft has provided here. Click the Fix It icon (the one on the left, if you see two) and the fix will be installed. Most users don’t even need to reboot.
Look, the bad guys are out there. They attack the systems that are the most popular. (Most popular is not the same as most vulnerable, despite the silly I’m-a-Mac-I’m-a-PC intimation otherwise.) It would be a better world if they weren’t out there, but in the meantime it’s up to us to keep our technology up to date and safe. If you live in an urban area, do you leave your house unlocked on the theory the bad guys should self-police or the cops will take care of it for you?
If you’re on a corporate network, ask your IT folks what to do. (They’re probably pushing this patch out to you overnight.)
